Financial management is probably the most frightening thing for the self-employed person starting outand I'm no exception to the rule. To make sure that everything goes well from the start, I went looking for an ERP (Integrated Management Software).

One of my first steps was to look for a module that integrates with eGroupWare. And I found at least two, but they did not meet my needs at all. The first one was CK-ERP, too vast, too messy, a real horror to set up, without the guarantee of being in accordance with the Belgian legislation. The other pERP, has exactly the opposite excesses. Not conclusive on this side.

Reading content isn't everything. The best way is to talk to us.

Then I headed to two free ERP heavyweights, TinyErp and Compière. The second one was eliminated from the start, it requires a J2EE server, which I don't have and which I don't want to install. The first one, TinyErp that I had already tested in the past was very tempting, even if it is developed in python and therefore not directly "hostable" on my server, it has the advantage of having a fat client and being developed by Belgians. I still had to search a bit.

And then I remembered that I had been told about Dolibarr. Seemingly dead (the website is not very up to date)The project is still going strong, as shown by the activity on its mailing list. Developed mainly by French and French-speaking Belgians, this ERP is fully adapted to the legislation in force in Belgium. It is simple, based on php/mysql, has a clear interface that does what is expected of it and no more. Let's hope that I will be able to encode many customer invoices in it...

    Very good, Dolibarr

For those who have some (basic) knowledge of accounting, Gnucash is not bad at all. The weak point was the invoicing system, but with a little bit of Perl, you can do miracles (data are saved in XML -> easy to use).

Good luck; being independent is not easy at the beginning, but it is worth it!

    Hello Christophe,

What bothers me about GNU Cash (which I haven't tested, but will do so on occasion) is that it is not accessible when you are on the move without a laptop.

Ideally, it should be able to connect to a remote server...

    Thank you for your encouragement.

    A+
